Telsmith Welcomes D.C. Everest School

D.C. Everest Team In Las Vegas with Team Coach John Glen & Telsmith President Rick Patek

MEQUON, WI - Tuesday 29, 2008 -
In January of 2008 over one hundred teams competed all over the United States in the first ever Construction Challenge. The construction challenge is a nationwide event that was developed by the Association of Equipment manufacturers (AEM) in partnership with the non-profit organization Destination Imagination Inc. The constriction challenge is an effort to attract the best and brightest of our people to join the constriction industry in professions ranging from engineering to on-site careers.

At the regional challenges, teams consisting of 6-7 high school students competed in challenges from building infrastructures to dialogue debates. The top 50 teams where invited to join the construction industry at ConExpo ‘08 in Las Vegas to compete at the Construction Challenge finals. Through the sponsorship and support of Astec Industries one of four lucky teams sponsored by Astec was a Wisconsin based team from D.C. Everest High School.

Students take a Telsmith Shop Tour

D.C. Everest made Astec Industries and Telsmith Inc. proud at the championships. They where so inspired by what they saw at the ‘08 ConExpo show in Las Vegas they took Telsmith up on an offer to spend a day at the Mequon Facility.

On Tuesday, April 29th 2008,  20 students and their teacher John Glen were given the opportunity to hear about multiple jobs that Astec offers and the insight of the employee’s who currently have those jobs.  They also spent quality time with a lead engineer in the shop for a tour called, “From Computer to Fabrication”. Telsmith was very impressed by how bright each and every one of the students was. It was obvious that every one of them have wide-open futures waiting. Telsmith can’t wait to see what the ‘09 Construction Challenge has to bring.
